Many students find Shakespeare difficult because they only ever meet him on the page. In these sessions, we bring Macbeth to life using techniques developed by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Rather than sitting and being told what the play means, students explore it in the same way actors and directors do: speaking the words aloud, stepping into the shoes of the characters, debating key decisions and exploring different interpretations of important scenes.
By getting Shakespeare off the page and into the room, students develop a deeper understanding of the language, characters, themes and quotations that underpin GCSE success. Along the way they build confidence, strengthen their analytical thinking and learn how to support their ideas with evidence from the text. Most importantly, they discover that Shakespeare isn't a confusing puzzle designed to catch them out, but a gripping piece of theatre full of big ideas, powerful characters and questions that still matter today.
